Väinö Arcticspoon Light Jig 70mm 12g

Ice fishing lure with a flashing light

The Väinö Arcticspoon is a traditional "iron spoon" with a flashing lure light set in the center. This combines a traditional ice fishing spoon and a lure light into a single lure. The Väinö Arcticspoon is 70 mm long and weighs a total of 12 g. There are lure rings at both ends of the spoon. The lure light, positioned in the center of the spoon and flashing underwater, is highly effective at attracting fish; and when the bite is slow, this light-equipped ice fishing spoon is a real lifesaver.

High-quality ice fishing light

What makes the Arcticspoon unique is its built-in ice fishing light, which flashes when the lure is in the water. The light source is a long-lasting LED that will last for years. The lure light is typically used for ice fishing for whitefish, but it has also proven effective for other fish, such as perch. Many anglers also rely on the traditional whitefish jig when ice fishing for perch.

Appropriate weight and size

The jig’s 70 mm length and 12 g weight are designed to make it effective for a variety of target fish. Because of its slightly heavier-than-usual weight, it sinks effortlessly even into deeper water, and when jigged, it produces an enticing swimming action.

A Good Color Chart

The Arcticspoon ice fishing lure color chart features 7 colors, ranging from more traditional metallic shades all the way to a bright parrot color. Experiment to find the most effective color for your specific ice fishing spots.

Techniques for Using a Light Jig

Traditionally, light jigs are used with, for example, a morri hook or a colored hook. You can attach the hook directly behind the jig or use a longer leader. We recommend experimenting with the lure light using leaders of different lengths, as well as various jig heads or hooks, to find the most effective way to use the Arcticspoon.

A magazine reviewed the Arcticpoon in 2026 as follows: "ERÄ Ice Fishing Kit 2026"

Among the representatives of this ice fishing season’s flash lure boom is the Väinö Arcticspoon, a 7-centimeter, 12-gram light-up lure. Unlike the other flashing jigs we’ve previously featured, the Väinö features a curved spoon-shaped body with an LED capsule riveted to the center, which rotates on a pivot. In this case, the light is a single color—yellow or green—and flashes at a frequency of about one second.

The lure is sold without a hook, so you can choose one to your liking. I used a gold mormyshka from the Patriot Ice Micro jig assortment with a 15-centimeter line leader. When dropped, the lure drifts far to the side, and when jigging in deep water, it takes a good while before it appears on the fish finder screen.

On Lake Puruvesi, the lure was so effective that I caught half a hundred perch with it, while my friends who were fishing with jigs came up empty-handed. Of course, with the exception of a couple weighing a quarter of a kilo, the perch were small, but the effectiveness compared to jigging was phenomenal. During the open-water season, it will be interesting to test how the Arcticspoon performs during twilight hours when casting. (JT)
