The Green Toilet separates liquid from solid waste using the double bottom structure of the tank. The tank is equipped with wheels, so emptying is effortless and takes only a few minutes. The composting Green Toilet does not require electricity or a sewage connection to function. The capacity of Green Toilet 330 is good, making it suitable for larger families at cottages and for year-round use, as well as for public places.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

Inside the Green Toilet compost tank is a unique double bottom that separates excess liquid from the compost. This way, composting begins already during use. The double bottom works like a familiar self-watering pot: some of the liquid is absorbed back into the compost mass and accelerates the composting process. Effective composting requires the mass to be suitably moist: not wet and not too dry.

The Green Toilet operates on the principle of batch composting: when the tank in use is full, it is pulled out with wheels and replaced with a spare tank. A sealed lid is placed on the full tank, and it can be left to compost completely in peace. This way, dry toilet maintenance takes only a few minutes, and raw toilet waste does not need to be handled at all. A full spare tank can be left to compost until the next change. After that, the contents of the spare tank are likely ready to be used for soil improvement.

In addition to composting, the Green Toilet's ventilation pipe guarantees odorlessness. It keeps the airflow in the correct direction: out from the seat and compost tank through the ventilation pipe. It also significantly affects liquid evaporation, especially in warm weather, reducing leachate. Ventilation can be enhanced with a wind ventilator, solar panel ventilator, or an electric duct fan if needed.

Excess liquid from the compost toilet, or leachate, is separated from the compost by the double bottom and flows through the liquid hose at the bottom into a collection canister. An alternative treatment method for leachate is to direct it to a GeoTrap Outhouse Filter and then, after purification, into the terrain.

GREEN TOILET COMPOST TANK MATERIAL

The color and material of our Green Toilet products (GT 120, GT 330 and GT Lux) will be updated in May 2026. We are transitioning from dark green plastic granules to black recycled material, which is a durable, high-quality and environmentally responsible choice. The change only affects the product's appearance – dimensions, functionality, quality and pricing remain completely unchanged. Timeless black blends perfectly into different environments and makes the products even more versatile.

INSTALLATION

The product comes with clear pictorial installation and operating instructions.

The entire compost tank and waste chute fit under the toilet seat cabinet. The Green Toilet waste chute is adjustable: it can be set 1-20 cm above the tank. This particularly facilitates installation in old outhouses.

Below the toilet seat cabinet, there should be at least about 92 cm of space for the tank and a minimum of 66 cm wide opening at the back of the outhouse. If necessary, additional space can often be gained by digging out earth from under the toilet seat cabinet or by raising the outhouse or toilet seat cabinet. If the waste chute remains at a low level, the excess part can be sawn off.

The ventilation pipe is often routed up along the outer wall of the outhouse or building. Ventilation works best when the pipe is routed as straight up as possible and preferably above the ridge. If necessary, all ventilation pipe accessories can be purchased separately from us if the basic package is insufficient.

MAINTENANCE

When the Green Toilet tank fills up, the first flexible part of the ventilation pipe and the liquid hose are detached from the tank. The wheel set is placed in its designated slot in the tank, if not already there. All these operations are performed without tools, by hand. After this, the tank is pulled out using the wheels.

When using a spare tank, its bottom is primed with about 10-15 cm thick layer of bulking material. After this, the chute lid is placed on the empty tank and positioned under the seat. A sealed lid is placed on the full Green Toilet tank, and it can be moved to a suitable location for post-composting until the next change.

APPLICATIONS

The larger Green Toilet 330 is ideal for cottages with a larger group of users, as well as for public places: summer cafes, guest harbors, nature trails, and other tourist destinations. It is also the right choice when long service intervals for the toilet are desired.
